USPS Form 1583 FAQ

What is Form 1583? Why do I need to file one?

As a registered Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA), we are legally required by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to provide and retain copies of your Form 1583 to USPS. This form needs to be notarized and sent to us to the mailing address located on the contact page and also in your welcome letter.

A whole article about Form 1583 and why it’s required is available if you want to know more.

I entered the wrong information for Form 1583 during the sign up process. How can I fix or change this?

In case you made a mistake on the form or decided to provide different IDs, we got just the remedy for you.

It’s not necessary to send us the form we created for you. We did this as a convenience so you don’t need to go through all the tedious work.

Can I file only one form for me, my spouse, and/or my children?

Yes, you can file one form for you, your spouse, and/or your children. To do this, enter your spouse’s name in Box 2 next to your name. For your children, you can enter their names in Box 12. Both boxes also have instructions.

Do I need to notarize the form? Is US Notary required or can I use a non-US notary in my country?

Yes, by USPS regulations, you need to notarize the form before sending it to us. The notary acts as proof that you are the person who’s authorized to receive mail in your name. You can find notaries almost anywhere. Banks normally have their own notary and sometimes may offer this service for free to you. Check with your bank.

If you live outside of the US, you can either get a local non-US notary to verify your identify. US Embassies also provide notary service for a fee. Bank official, lawyers, and government officials can also endorse your form with their signature and official seal.

How long does it take to process and activate my mailbox after I send you my form?

We process your form the same day it is received. If everything is in good order, you will receive an automated email from us that your mailbox has been activated. If there’s missing information, we will contact you over email.

If you do not hear from us for a reasonable period of time, feel free to email us to check on the status. If you send your form to us through postal mail, it may some time for us to receive and process your form.

When I send you the Form 1583, will this also forward all my mail to your mailbox?

No. USPS Form 1583 only authorizes us to receive mail on your behalf. No mail will get forwarded at this point. To have your mail forwarded, you need to manually file a Change of Address request with USPS.

If you do not wish to have all your mail forwarded to us, you should manually update mailing address with anyone who sends you mail. This is a great way to go if you only want certain types of mail to go to your Virtual Post Mailbox.
